What is an Ob/Gyn?
This is a doctor who specializes in the care of birthing people and the birth of their babies. They also specialize in gynecology which covers a menstruating person’s general health care. Ob/Gyn's attend medical school and are trained to be surgeons in their residency. They assist you in making informed decisions on where and when you want to have your baby. Overall these are doctors who are specialized in care related to pregnancy and reproductive health.
Why do I need an Ob/Gyn?
- These doctors specialize in high risk pregnancies that may need a close monitoring during pregnancy.
- You may want and feel most comfortable in a hospital setting with a trained medical professional who went through medical school and board certification.
- They are surgeons who specialize in the emergency cesarean birth if baby needs to be birthed quickly.
- You may have a family practice doctor who does obstetrics and you are most comfortable with them attending the birth of your baby.
