The Black Maternal and Infant Mortality Crisis demands our attention now. Black birthing people, regardless of economic, educational or class standing, are 2-3 more likely to die during pregnancy, birth and the first year postpartum than their white counterparts and Black infants are 2 times more likely to die than white infants. Systematic & institutionalized racism are to blame. Black birthing people & their babies need Black care providers to provide high-quality care that is outside of systems of oppression. SDBN supports our local community of Black-owned businesses that specialize in the care of families to improve the gaps in care.
